Design a Bookmark Contest: REMEMBER: all entries are due on October 14.  Entries must be on template supplied by the media center.
We provide the template and YOU provide the creativity to design a bookmark illustrating the theme, “Read Beyond Reality@yourlibrary”.  This theme comes to you from the American Library Association in celebration of the upcoming Teen Read Week celebration (October 18-24). Pick up template and instructions in the library this week.   Deadline for entries is October 14. Winners will be announced the during Teen Read Week.

Guess My Title and Author Contest:
Every day this week we will place a brief description of one of the many popular young adult novels in the front entryway display case.  Read the clue, guess the title and author and come in to the library to enter to win!

Monday’s secret book:  Maximum Ride, the angel experimentMaximum Ride, The Angel Experiment by James Patterson.

The clue: After the mutant Erasers abduct the youngest member of their group, the “birdkids”, who are the result of genetic experimentation, take off in pursuit and find themselves struggling to understand their own origins and purpose.

Tuesday’s secret bookFound, (The Missing, book 1)Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

The clue: When 13-year-olds Jonah and Chip, who are both adopted, learn they were discovered on a plane that appeared out of nowhere, full of babies with no adults on board, they realize that they have uncovered a mystery involving time travel and two opposing forcs, each trying to repair the fabric of time.

Wednesday’s secret bookThe Invention of Hugo Cabret The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznik.  The clue: When 12 year old Hugo, an orphan living and repairing clocks within the walls of a Paris train station in 1931, meets a mysterious toyseller and his goddaughter, his undercover life and his biggest secret are jeopardized.

Thursday’s secret book: The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson & the Olympians Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan

The clue: the boy in this story has been expelled from six schools for being unable to control his temper.  He learns from his mother that his father is a famous Greek god.  He is sent to Camp Half Blood where is is befriended by a satyr and the demigod daughter of a famous Greek goddess.  They join him in a journey to the Underworld to retrieve Zeu’s lightening bolt and prevent a catastropic war.

Friday’s secret book: Al Capone Does My ShirtsAl Capone Does my Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko   (winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 13 after the second bell)

The clue: A twelve-year-old boy named Moose moves to a famous prison island in 1935 when guards’ families were housed there. He  has to contend with his extraordinary new environment in addition to life with his autistic sister.
